Absztrakt

Abstract

With the shrinking role of traditional media, the decline in the number of local media outlets, and the widespread adoption of digital solutions, the role of so-called hyperlocal media outlets has become increasingly significant. The study by María-Cruz Negreira-Rey, Yael de Haan, and Rijk van den Broek demonstrates when these types of media outlets emerged and spread, and why researchers struggle to precisely define what falls into the category of hyperlocal media. Subsequently, the study maps the situation and characteristics of hyperlocal media in Spain and the Netherlands, describing their operational and ownership structures, the content they produce, and the nature of their community engagement. The two countries present two completely different pictures regarding the number of news products, their operation, and their content production habits.
